Insurance in Thailand is regulated by the Office of Insurance Commission. Policies are sold directly, through agents and through banks. If you need cover for a visa, read our guide to health insurance for long-stay visas first.

Checking an insurer or agent

Insurers, agents and brokers must be licensed by the Office of Insurance Commission, which publishes a licence search. For visa purposes, Thai policies usually need to come from an insurer on the approved list for that visa. Ask for the full policy wording, not only the brochure.
